What Year Did The 9/11 Attacks Occur?
Believe it or not, 30% of Americans don't know.
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Some 30 percent of Americans cannot say in what year the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against New York's World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington took place, according to a poll published in the Washington Post newspaper.
While the country is preparing to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives and shocked the world, 95 percent of Americans questioned in the poll were able to remember the month and the day of the attacks, according to Wednesday's edition of the newspaper.
But when asked what year, 30 percent could not give a correct answer.
Of that group, six percent gave an earlier year, eight percent gave a later year, and 16 percent admitted they had no idea whatsoever.
This memory black hole is essentially the problem of the older crowd: 48 percent of those who did not know were between the ages of 55 and 64, and 47 percent were older than 65, according to the poll.
The Post telephone survey was carried out July 21-24 among 1,002 randomly selected adults. The margin of error is plus or minus three percentage points.
This isn't like the year Pearl Harbor was bombed, folks. This was a significant event in your lifetime.
I hope these people don't vote.

I myself wasn't sure if it was 2000 or 2001 but being Canadian I suppose I could use that as an excuse, albeit a poor one. What really frightens me though is the extent to which people in general don't want to be reminded about unpleasant things, instead choosing to conveniently forget the matter, not follow-up to se who really planned it, who really funded it and what the American government has done to ensure that those responsible be brought to justice. I think most people would agree that it's pointless to hope for honest answers from the government. For those of you who do wish to wake up from the hypnotic state the population at large is in, you would be well advised to seek out a documentary called "Zeitgeist" which delves into the matter more deeply than I had ever imagined.
In fact, here in Canda we are already seeing backlash against the proposed North American union that would see the U.S, Canada and Mexico merged into one entity for financial and security purposes. This will give the politicians (and hence, corporate America)unpreceented levels of power which they will never give up. Of course, the whole thing is being done under a veil of secrecy and by the time people on this continent wake to realize what has happened, it will be too late. What a wonderful world this could be if only ...

I'll be the first to admit that someone asked me this question the other day and I was completely stumped. I was recounting the entire day remembering what was happening in my life at that time and I could not tell this person what year it was. They couldn't remember either. I'm not sure why that was the case, but there you go.
